What does The Village Apartments’ revitalization project entail?
We are excited to share that beginning May 11, 2020, we will be replacing the siding and windows, renovating kitchens, replacing apartment doors and hardware, and replacing the stairwells in all 11 community buildings. Our goal is to enhance the overall resident experience at The Village, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation while we make necessary improvements.

Can residents stay in their rooms during construction?
Construction will be extensive and it’s important contractors can access apartments and complete the job in a timely and efficient manner. For residents’ safety and comfort during construction, we have made arrangements for them to relocate to a USH residence hall located on North Campus. Residents will not be permitted to return to their apartment. We recognize this is an inconvenience, but look forward to the exciting changes that will take place at The Village.

What’s the next step in the relocation process?
We sent a letter to all residents asking them to choose an alternate housing option for May 10, 2020 to July 22, 2020. The following options are available:
 I want to relocate to a USH North Campus community by Sunday, May 10, 2020, into a 2- bedroom double suite style.
 I want to relocate to a USH North Campus community by Sunday, May 10, 2020, into a single suite style.
 I plan to vacate my apartment on Sunday, May 10, 2020 by 10am. I understand that I am not opting for the USH relocation and will not be receiving reimbursement from USH. I will be vacating my apartment, and my lease agreement will expire on Sunday, May 10, 2020.
We ask that residents complete the form by August 16, 2019. The form and instructions are located on the USH website.

How does this affect residents that are graduating and have final exams?
All final exams will be complete by Friday, May 8, 2020. If a resident is graduating on Saturday, May 9 or Sunday May 10, 2020, they will have until Monday, May 11, 2020 to either move out of their apartment or relocate to one of our North Campus residence halls.

When will residents know their North Campus housing assignments?
Residents will be notified of their North Campus assignment in April 2020. Housing assignments will be sent to the email address on file for both the resident and guarantor.

What if residents aren’t interested in relocating to North Campus?
If residents do not wish to relocate to North Campus, they have the option to vacate their apartments by Sunday, May 10, 2020 at 10:00am. They will not receive a rental reimbursement from USH and their lease agreements will expire effective May 10, 2020 at 10:00am.

Will residents receive rent reimbursement?
Despite operating on a longer, 11-month lease term, rent at The Village is billed on a semester basis for fall and spring, just as all other on-campus housing. The Village residents pay a similar cost split between two semester payments but receive an added value having been permitted to stay in their assignment into the summer months. To make up for the lost time at The Village due to construction, we are offering to relocate residents to North Campus where their existing lease agreement length will remain in full force and effect with no additional charge. See below for a cost comparison chart.

Will you help residents move their belongings?
We are happy to help. Residents who require assistance moving can sign up in The Village Clubhouse. USH maintenance will then arrange a time to help them transport their belongings between The Village and North Campus. Residents are responsible to remove all items from their apartments.

Will residents be able to access their apartments during construction?
Unfortunately, residents will not be able to access their apartments during construction. It’s important that residents remove all belongings from the apartment before leaving The Village on May 10, 2020.

Will residents have access to a kitchen on North Campus?
While residing in a USH-owned residence hall on North Campus, residents will be able to utilize the common area kitchen in the building. A microwave and refrigerator will also be provided by USH in their room.

What should residents do with their emotional support or service animals?
Residents’ animals can relocate with them to North Campus.

Where can residents park while on North Campus?
While on North Campus, residents can park in any non-employee lot without a parking pass. The parking lot behind Sykes Student Union at 110 W. Rosedale Avenue is the closest parking lot to USH residence halls.
